Emeritus Professor Valerie A. Brown AO, BSc MEd PhD

is currently a Visiting Fellow in the Fenner School of Environment and Society, Australian National University. As Director of the Local Sustainability Project, 1995 – present, she conducts research programs on the introduction of sustainability practices into public health, local government, and whole-of-community decision-making, having worked in all States of Australia, China, Fiji, Malaysia and Nepal.

Created Emeritus Professor by the University of Western Sydney after being its Foundation Chair of Environmental Health 1996-2002, Valerie established at UWS an Integrated Monitoring Research Centre and the inaugural Indigenous Communities’ Environmental Health Program. In 1999 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1999, for advocacy for sustainable development.
Her recent books are Leonardo's Vision. A guide to collective thinking and action. SENSE Publishers 2008; Social learning and environmental management Earthscan 2005 (with M.Keen and R.Dyball); and Sustainability and Health Earthscan 2005 (with J.Grootjans et al).
